SUMMER OF SUCCESS

Historics' offering at its major summer auction on 13th July was the most varied in its history and underpinned a further fine sale success

A superb array of 180 immensely varied classics greeted a throng of over 1,200 on the two preview days and sale day at Historics' evocative home, Brooklands Museum, on Saturday, 13th July.

By the close, yet again Historics scored a resounding success including a sale result of 65% with 22 consignments soaring to above their top estimate. Another landmark was reflected in no less than 47 cars offered enticingly at no reserve, passing to new owners.

THE AUCTION IN NUMBERS:
• 180 entries, including five classic motorcycles
• 53 different marques were represented
• 47 entries were offered at no reserve
• Entries spanned 9 decades
• The oldest: 1922 Chevrolet Light 490 Police Truck. Sold: £8,500
• The newest: 2012 McLaren MP4-12C. Sold: £72,240
• The rarest: 2000 AC Cobra 212 S/C Roadster – one of just two. Sold: £84,560
• The least known: 1959 Bocar XP-5. Sold: £79,240

Attendance and bidder registrations reflected both the buoyancy of the market and the popularity of Historics' offering with 400 registrations accounting for those in the hall, on the telephone and via commission bids. This was despite the sale clashing with other major attractions including the British F1 Grand Prix weekend, and the last Saturday of Wimbledon.

In fact, this total was beaten by a whisker by on-line bidder registrations ….no less than 409 in all…demonstrating the increasing buy-in to internet-based commerce amongst classic car enthusiasts, and Historics' consignment appeal.

What's more, the sale was again a strong reflection of the international stature of Historics, with on-line bids via Historics in-hall auction partner Bidpath coming from 23 different countries as far apart as New Zealand and Hong Kong to West Coast USA.

The high volume of bidder registrations assured spirited bidding across all platforms, with a record 728 on-line bids tussling with those in hall and on the telephone.

The Historics consignment team now turn their attention to the next sale, again at Brooklands Museum, Surrey, on Saturday, 21st September…. To enter, call Historics on 01753 639170.
