Historics offers homage to the glory days of the works rally team Mini
In volume terms, the original Mini was the most successful British car of all time, with 5.3 million leaving the production line for 41 years from1959.
The level of affection for the Alec Issigonis creation is hard to equal and in no small part is due to the Mini’s giant-killing success on international rallies.
Many of the familiar red and white works rally Minis that repeatedly slipped and slid their way to victory in the 60s on the Monte Carlo and many other major rallies are well preserved.
The Mini works rally car is also a popular choice when it comes to paying homage to Mini mightiness on the rally stage, and Historics has a wonderfully prepared tribute consigned to the 21st September sale.
Resplendent in full works colours, it is a correct-for-period 1965 Morris Mini Cooper S (1275cc) prepared to emulate rally ace Paddy Hopkirk’s famous Monte Carlo Rally-winning car of 1964. It is exceptionally well-prepared with no expense spared in completely rebuilding it to Group B rally specification, with an enormous equipment list that includes the best quality rally components.
And it’s far from simply a show car, the present owner having competed it in a number of UK historic rallies. Complete with a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust Certificate, it’s ready and waiting for classic rallies, hillclimbs, sprints or simply for huge fun on the road.
