A significant piece of Porsche history stars at Historics
One look at the bright red 1986 ‘flatnose’ Porsche that comes to auction on November 24th tells you it’s more than a little special. With enormous rear wheels, a bodyshell that's been max’d on steroids, one solitary windscreen wiper and massive air vents to the engine bay, this super rare Porsche 935 by DP Motorsport is in fact the only RHD example that exists of this statement model.
The bodyshell, designed by the German motorsport company, will need no introduction to followers of Porsche’s illustrious history on the racetrack as it is based on that of the Le Mans-winning Kremer 935 K3, the body of which DP also designed. And ditto the single wiper and deeper windscreen on the sale car.
But its stunning looks are just the start. DP Motorsport built up this car from a new Porsche 930 Turbo from the factory and sprinkled stardust on the mechanical specification, with an uprated engine featuring cockpit adjustable boost (to 440bhp), uprated suspension and brakes, and those enormous 13 x 15 forged rear wheels that are needed to tame this super-impressive Porsche. It weighs a svelte 950kg, that’s a staggering 500kg less than the production Porsche 930 Turbo and contributes enormously to it’s electrifying performance.
With less than 24,000 miles since new, this car is in exceptional condition having been cherished by the vendor during his 20-year ownership. Immensely collectable, it comes to sale with a fascinating history file.
