JAMES HUNT MERCEDES LINES UP ON HISTORICS AUCTION GRID

Lusty 1979 450SEL has a powerful past

Anyone who looks back into what Formula One drivers of yesteryear frequently drove on the road can’t fail to notice that the Mercedes-Benz marque looms large. One such was British World Champion James Hunt, whose 1979 450 SEL lines up on Historics auction grid on November 24th. So much did the car appeal to him that he owned it for 14 years until his passing in 1993.

Featuring the lusty 6.9 litre V8 engine that provides a strong clue as to the reason for the model’s popularity with F1’s stars, this car was restored to ‘as-new’ condition in 1995 to the tune of £24,000 by the subsequent owner, Lord Gould. A very desirable car with super provenance.
