Tenth sale sees auctioneer go from strength to strength
As Brooklands basked in sunshine on the first day of autumn, the star-studded catalogue assembled by classic and sports car auctioneer Historics, netted a fourth successive £1 million plus sale, with Aston Martin's DB5 once again stealing the show.
Amidst its most valuable catalogue of cars consigned to date, Historics' tenth auction was dominated by the perfectly presented 1964 Aston Martin DB5 that soared above its pre-sale estimate, to a final sale price of £336,000.
Similarly smashing all pre-sale predictions, a 1990 AC Cobra Mk. IV witnessed fervent bidding both in the room and online via iBidder, before Historics' auctioneer bought the gavel down for a final sale price of £81,200.
With auction goers enjoying the September sun, soft tops unsurprisingly proved popular, with a 1991 Bentley Continental Convertible selling for £58,240, a 1960 Porsche 356B Cabriolet going for £39,200 and an evergreen 1956 Austin Healey 100/4 BN2 to 'M' Specification reaching a final sale figure of £35,280.
Competition-bred classic cars also continue to attract increasing numbers of enthusiasts to Historics' sales, and a magnificent class-winning 1939 Alvis 12/70 Competition raced away to £96,320, whilst a Ford Lotus Cortina - subject to escalating prices of late - saw robust bidding, before the 1965 Mk. I was sold for £42,000
Likewise a rare opportunity to acquire an original 1973 BMW 2002 Tii was one not to be missed, as the low mileage compact sporting sedan reached £17,360, comfortably above its pre-sale estimate.
A continued increase in the average value of cars sold by the Brooklands based auctioneer is testament to the quality of consignments bought to auction, with the £27,720 fetched for a truly exceptional 1957 Ford Thunderbird Convertible providing proof that Historics boasts real breadth of appeal.
Commenting on the sale, which saw 47 of 99 Lots sold for a final sale price of £1,347,080, Historics' Auction Director Edward Bridger-Stille remarked; "our belief from day one that you can offer the finest quality classic cars of all kinds, as part of a truly inclusive auction experience, is only emphasised by our tenth sale.
"In an increasingly congested auction calendar, Historics is firmly established, and as ever a debt of gratitude goes to our customers who continue to share our belief", he concluded.
