The Austin Mini Cooper S Mk. II is a legendary car, which was first introduced in 1967. The car is well known for its unique design, handling, and impressive performance on the road. The car was equipped with a 1275cc engine, which produced 76 bhp, which may not sound like much by modern standards, but at the time, it was considered to be quite powerful for a car of its size. The Cooper S Mk. II was also quite a rare car with only 1,479 destined for the home market and far fewer remaining. The Cooper S Mk. II had a distinctive look that set it apart from other cars of its time. The car's handling was also exceptional, thanks to its front-wheel drive and nimble suspension system, making it a popular choice for racing enthusiasts. Overall, this was a car that was ahead of its time, offering impressive performance, exceptional handling, and a distinctive design that still looks great today. It has become a classic car, which is highly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts alike.
Despatched from the factory on 12th December 1969 this Austin Mini Cooper S was originally registered on 1st March 1970 and was then a personal export to Australia. It was then repatriated to the UK circa 2010 and a total nut and bolt restoration was carried out. A collection of comprehensive photographs confirms the extent of the restoration, with the bodywork being stripped, refabricated where necessary and repainted in the fetching colour combination of red with a black roof. Mechanically no stone was left unturned by the obviously highly skilled mechanic, the engine was bored out and rebuilt, an unleaded cylinder head fitted along with twin 1½ inch SU carburettors. Dry adjustable cones were fitted in place of the hydrolastic suspension. A significant history folder accompanies this Mk. II Cooper S, showing the spend on parts alone to be over £20,000. Supplied with a V5C registration document and a current MoT test certificate valid until 12th February 2024, this is a very tidy example of a highly desirable Austin Cooper S Mk. II. The odometer reading of 2,221 is the mileage the car has covered since the restoration.
