The original Porsche 911 with its famous, distinctive and durable design was introduced in the autumn of 1963 and built until 1989. Mechanically, it was notable for being rear-engined and air-cooled. From its inception, the 911 was modified both by private racing teams and the Porsche factory itself for racing, rallying and other automotive competitions. The original 911 series is often cited as the most successful competition car ever, especially when its variations are included, namely the powerful 911-derived 935 which won Le Mans as well as other major sports cars races. In 1967 Porsche introduced the 911 T model and subsequently a 911 E version, however, the 911 S was the most desirable and with only 3,174 (with far fewer being in right hand drive guise) Porsche 911S’s manufactured from 1969-1971, good quality surviving examples are rare and highly sought-after.
This 911 S is one of only 120 right hand drive cars built and was originally supplied by Porsche Germany and wasn’t registered in the UK until 1972. This might suggest the first owner purchased the car in Germany from the factory, possibly whilst stationed there, with the intention of bringing it home with them upon their return to the UK, as is often the case. Our vendor purchased this Bahia Red example in 2016 from a gentleman who had owned the car since 1988 and had clearly cherished it. Our vendor had the car fully resprayed not long after purchasing it and the result is a car which presents extremely well with a very consistent shine to the bodywork. The interior appears to be completely original and is all the better for it, it doesn’t look overly restored like so many others do, it wears a lovely patina and really doesn’t appear to require any attention at all. The odometer reading of 77,528 is understood to be correct, with MoT test certificates dating back as far as 1979 at 34,000 miles helping to warrant the mileage almost every year until the early 2000’s around 73,000 miles.
This is your chance to purchase one of the ultra-collectable low volume Porsche 911’s, offering one of the most visceral driving experiences out there. Very few right hand drive 911S’ remain, it is highly unlikely you will see another one, even at Porsche specific events. The 2.2 litre engine offers a lovely amount of power and useability, all backed up by the fabulous flat-six soundtrack for which Porsche 911’s are so highly revered.
