The name CL stands for the German 'Coupé Leicht' or Coupé Light. The CL-Class is based on the S-Class full-size luxury car known at first as the SEC and later S coupé. It was spun off into its own, current name in 1996 and in 1997 for North American markets. The CL continued to follow the same development cycle as the S, although riding on a shorter wheelbase and sharing the same engines, albeit with less choice, as only the higher-output power trains were offered. The second generation CL or the W215 chassis coupé of 2000-2006 came in various guises with this example being the supercharged V8-powered CL55 AMG. It came equipped with the very latest in Mercedes-Benz technology and, along with the S-Class saloons; the CL coupés received all new technological features.

Purchased from new on 15th May 2005 by our vendor, direct from the factory this incredibly low mileage example of the supercharged V8 powered CL55 AMG Kompressor which possesses 493bhp and is capable of 0-60 in 4.8 seconds cost £98,564 new. Specified with £5,674 of options including radar assist cruise control, keyless go, a TV tuner in front, Nokia 6210 WAP phone, 19" AMG alloy wheels, electric rear roller blind and Linguatronic. Presented in metallic silver with a black leather trim this example has covered a mere 12,919 miles with much of its recent life dry stored in the vendors garage alongside its sister SL55. Recently recommissioned with an oil and filter change, new fuel pump, new battery and new fluids this example represents a rare opportunity to own a modern classic coupé with supercar credentials. Offered with the original book pack and service booklet showing two early services stamped in 2004 and 2009 with Mercedes-Benz dealers, the last at 12,860. This Mercedes comes to auction without reserve with and MoT certificate until November 2024 and viewing is highly recommended.
