The fifth generation of the legendary SL series convertible sports cars was known as the R230. It featured a fully retractable hardtop that was marketed as the Vario Roof, a first for the SL class although it had been available on the smaller SLK model since 1997. The flagship models were built by AMG in the form of the SL55 and SL65, both highly tuned versions of the SL500 and SL600 respectively. The SL55 was powered by a mighty supercharged version of the 5.5 litre, V8 which produced 493bhp and achieved 0-62 in 4.7 seconds and on to a top speed of 155mph (governed). In theory, the SL55 could reach 190mph if the car was de-restricted but, for many, the acceleration and top speed is impressive enough in its standard form!

Averaging 33 miles a year this is a unique opportunity to own an ‘as new’ flagship SL55 that our vendor has retained since his purchase in 2003 Supplied direct from the AMG factory for the sum of £96,055. Within the purchase price options of £5,355 included panoramic glass roof, keyless go, TV tuner, comfort seats, fixed Nokia 6090, Parktronic, Linguatronic and AMG 18" five spoke alloy wheels. Presented in metallic silver with a contrasting blood red as new interior. The car was delivered to our vendor from Germany and sat proudly next to his CL55, the CL for him and the SL for his wife however unlike the CL this example was only driven for a short time before being dry stored in a warm garage environment, under a towel cover and maintenance charger thus the staggering low mileage. Recently recommissioned for the sale which included an oil change and removing any old fuel before new Mercedes-Benz batteries were fitted, the proof of which can be found in the history file accompanied by the original service booklet. This is one of the most collectable examples of a modern AMG we have offered, and it comes to auction without reserve therefore viewing is a must, especially at the home of Mercedes-Benz AMG in the UK.
