The Mercedes-Benz R129 was based on the shortened floorpan of the Mercedes-Benz W124 and featured many innovative details for the time; for instance electronically controlled damping (optional) and a hidden, automatically extending roll-over bar. The R107's rather dated rear diagonal swing axle gave way to a modern multi-link axle. The number of standard features was high - with electric action for the windows, mirrors, seats and convertible top. The 1994 cars were the first to have the new designation; i.e. the 500 SL became the SL500. Also starting in 1994, Mercedes-Benz offered special SL models from time to time, such as the ‘Mille Miglia Edition’. AMG, the Mercedes-Benz owned tuning company, had already offered an SL version while still independent; the AMG 500 SL six-litre of 1991. After being taken over by Daimler-Benz, there were several AMG SL-models available. The SL60 AMG was the most numerous of these rare cars. Sold from 1993 to 1998, it used a six-litre, V8 engine producing 381PS at 5500rpm. AMG claimed a 0 to 62mph speed of 5.6 seconds. Its top speed was limited to 155mph, but with the limiter removed, it was capable of approximately 185mph. AMG later unofficially conceded that 0 to 60mph was more like 5.0 seconds and the engine produced between 405-410bhp.

This superb example of this stylish and rare Mercedes-Benz is presented in Obsidian black with black leather interior, AMG wheels and colour coded bumpers and front grille. The car looks amazing! It comes with an extensive history file containing good service history, every MoT going back to 2002, all original Mercedes-Benz handbooks and folders. The vendor has just fitted a brand new set of Dunlop tyres and also to note is that owing to human error in 2008, its original engine was ruined by a Mercedes-Benz mechanic whilst in for a service so a correct replacement engine was fitted by Mercedes-Benz for a total cost of £42,790 which is documented in the history file (heads no doubt rolled on that day!!) This a stunning looking convertible with its hardtop and has the performance to match emulating from its six-litre V8, providing it with an alleged top speed of 155mph.
