The Austin Healey 3000 Mk. I four-seater was a sports car produced between 1959 and 1961. This version of the popular sports car featured four seats, making it a practical option for families and those who wanted to enjoy the open road with friends. Under the bonnet, the Austin Healey 3000 Mk. I four-seater featured a 2.9 litre straight-six engine capable of producing up to 124 horsepower, which was mated to a four-speed manual transmission. This engine allowed the car to accelerate from 0-60mph in just 11.2 seconds and reach a top speed of 112mph.
This lovely Austin Healey 3000 Mk. I was supplied new by Central Garage Ltd in Bradford on 2nd July 1960. The second owner acquired the car in November 1967 and subsequently passed it to his son in Bolton in 1985. The third recorded keeper was from Aylesbury and bought the car in April 2001 and the accompanying album of photographs shows it to need a bit of restoration. The current owner, who purchased the car on 3rd February 2011, informs us that the car’s body was restored by noted Healey specialist JME of Leamington Spa, and the cylinder head was reconditioned and converted to unleaded with a Denis Welch manifold and an exhaust system fitted around the same time. A new clutch and re-furbished overdrive unit was fitted and enhance the driving experience whilst the electronic ignition offers reassurance at the turn of the key. The painted wire wheels have recently been shod with a set of Michelin XAS tyres. The current owner commissioned the re-trimming of the interior in black leather, with seats piped in red, installed a Moto-Lita steering wheel and fitted a new full size tonneau cover. The black hardtop has never been fitted as the car has only been used sparingly on dry days, covering some 2,500 miles in 11 years, with a total of 64,900 miles now recorded at the time of cataloguing. This Austin Healey is finished in its original colour scheme of Colorado Red over black and is supplied with a V5C registration document and a large file containing a buff logbook, a Heritage Certificate, file of invoices, old MoT test certificates and a photograph album of the restoration. Also supplied is the factory hardtop and the original bumpers. Supported by the history file, it is believed a genuine 64,900 miles has been covered by its four registered owners.
