Before David Plastow left his senior position at Rolls-Royce following the take-over of Vickers plc, he had been responsible for a series of models, amongst which was the Rolls-Royce Silver Spirit. The Silver Spirit was unveiled in October 1980 as a replacement for the Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow. The coachwork of the Silver Spirit had been designed at the in-house styling centre by Fritz Feller and gave the impression of being stretched in comparison with the bodies of the previous generation. Direct comparison, however, showed only small differences. The new models had slightly grown in length and width; height had been cut a little, although the styling was more modern than that of its predecessor. The interior was dominated by the expected combination of fine wood and sumptuous leather.
Supplied new by world famous franchised dealer Jack Barclay, this early carburettor Silver Spirit is finished in the pleasing colour combination of Ice Green with a dark green leather interior, carpets and over rugs which are all in superb condition. The impressive file for this Rolls-Royce contains correspondence from the supplying dealer, twenty-two previous MoT test certificates and lots of invoices, the original order paperwork is present and shows the option of factory upgraded air- conditioning. This extremely low mileage Rolls-Royce has been owned by the same family from new, originally being registered to Mr. G. Linney, followed by his company and then his son. In preparation for sale this car has been subject to some maintenance work, a new battery, precision detailing and the fitting of a high torque starter motor; however, the paintwork would also benefit from some attention. Offered to auction with a V5C registration document, a fresh MoT test certificate, spare keys and a full, original set of unused tools. KYK 949X must be one of the most genuine, lowest mileage Silver Spirits available in today’s market.
