The fifth generation SL was in production between 2002 and 2008 and featured the all-new retractable hardtop - an important feature for the British weather. Mercedes-Benz followers were impressed with the stability of the car with the hardtop in place and the ease at which they could remove it. Such was its success; the SL is still one of the leading cars in the Mercedes-Benz range. This generation of car features the very capable 5.0 litre 302bhp V8 powerplant mated to a standard auto gearbox. The R230 also features the ABC (active body control) which offers the balance of comfort and handling. The complex system uses accumulators and hydraulic fluids to regulate the firmness and heights of the suspension.

This sleek looking Mercedes shows only four previous keepers and has been in the vendors possession since 2017. The high level of specification for this popular model includes, cruise control, Xenon headlights, front and rear parking sensors, the COMAND media system with satellite navigation, dual-zone air conditioning, switchable sport mode, an electrically operated suspension lift system, cruise control, and electrically adjustable heated seats with three-position memory. Options added when new also include Bose sound system, telephone pre-wiring and hand-free, Linguatronic a heated multi-function steering wheel, garage door opener and Burr walnut trim. The car presents well in the classic colour combination for this model of Teal blue with a black leather interior. The cars accompanying file contains original handbooks, various bills, receipts and previous MoT test certificates and a service book showing 13 stamps. The last service was completed in February 2023 at 101,125. Offered to auction with a V5C registration document and a MoT test certificate until February 2024 with no advisories, this impressive Mercedes is offered at a fraction of the £69,000 paid when new.

Interested parties should note that this car arrived with a fault with the ABS/ESP which appears to be linked to the battery. A brand-new battery has been fitted to the car, but we have not managed to find the fault and rectify the issue. At this stage, it is advised that the car will need to be trailered from site and will need a specialist to diagnose and rectify the problem believed to be relating to the power supply.
