The 1955 Morgan Plus 4 is a classic British sports car which features a 2.1 litre, four-cylinder engine that delivers around 90 horsepower and a four-speed manual transmission. The Plus 4 was introduced in 1950 and was an evolution of the earlier Morgan 4/4 model. The Plus 4 had a longer wheelbase and a wider track than its predecessor, which made for improved handling and stability. The body of the Plus 4 was made of ash wood framing with aluminium or steel body panels, and the car had a top speed of around 95mph (153km/h). The Plus 4 was also known for its distinctive styling, which featured a rounded front end with a large grille and headlights mounted on the fenders.
This very original example is presented in blue with a black interior and has a black hood. It has a rear mounted luggage rack and according to the owner the car runs and drives nicely. Its originality is very endearing, with the interior certainly looking like it’s the original including the dash, steering wheel and seats. These are rare sports cars with very few being made, and this is certainly one for the collector or indeed for someone to enjoy as has the present owner over the last 28 years. Today, the Morgan Plus 4 is highly sought-after for its classic styling and driving experience.
