The CL-Class is the flagship of the Mercedes-Benz car range. It continued to follow the same development cycle as the S-Class though riding on a shorter wheelbase and offered with only the higher-output powertrains. It was the first Mercedes to feature Active Body Control, Bi-Xenon headlights and, on the early V12 models it employed Active Cylinder Control. This shut down one bank of cylinders under light engine loads enabling it to achieve better fuel economy than the V8 CL500. Not bad for a car with a six litre V12 developing 367bhp and yielding a Soyuz-launching 0-60mph time of 5.9 seconds. It is as a Grand Tourer that this model is primarily designed for though. With more rear seat space than many executive saloons, a huge boot and a truly cosseting driving environment, the CL is one of the most soothing cars you could hope to take on a long trip. The performance is remarkable and the turbine-smooth V12 is, frankly, epic.

Originally registered on 25th October 1998, this Mercedes-Benz is in very good condition and is finished in dark blue coachwork over a two tone grey interior. The V12 engine burst into life when requested and ran exceedingly quietly and smoothly. The automatic gearbox offers seamless gear changes resulting in this being a car of supreme comfort to drive and excellent performance. This is possibly the nicest example we have seen. The paintwork retains a deep shine and the interior is excellent. The wheels are also in good order bar the odd blemish commensurate with the cars age. Supplied with its original Mercedes book pack with service book including a comprehensive Mercedes main dealer and Mercedes specialist service record with 13 stamps to show. Various old MoT records are also present as well as many sundry bills including a recent invoice of circa £1,000 for a new radiator, a V5C registration document and a current MoT test certificate valid until 10th January 2024, this Mercedes-Benz CL600 is superb and is offered for sale without reserve and also comes complete with its private registration number ‘P88 CAN’. This could well prove to be a shrewd purchase.
