The Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow II is the epitome of 1970’s luxury motoring. The original Silver Shadow was released in 1965 and made way for the vastly improved Shadow II in 1977, which would stay in production until 1980. The Silver Shadow II was known for its silky-smooth ride and powerful V8 engine, which provided plenty of power for the car's substantial size. It also featured a number of advanced features for its time, such as a sophisticated self-levelling suspension system and an air conditioning system which could be operated independently for the driver and front passenger. The Shadow II also gained rack and pinion steering, which vastly improved the handling over its predecessor. The interior of the Silver Shadow II was of course the height of luxury, with the finest wood veneer and leather upholstery.
This particular example is presented in a magnificent colour combination of Ivory paintwork with an orange leather interior, there can’t have been many in this combination from the factory. The paintwork is in excellent condition and the interior has a lovely original feel to it. Our vendor purchased the car in December 2021, with the car needing a bit of mechanical recommissioning. The car was sent to Gordon Dale Rolls-Royce and Bentley specialists, who possibly know these cars better than anyone else. Invoices from Gordon Dale (formerly Frank Dale & Stepsons) total £9,917.78, for recommissioning on just about all of the braking system, a thorough mechanical service and replacement of many rubber seals, bushes and so on. The result is a car which is now ready to take daily driver duties in its stride. The car also comes with invoices totalling £3,846.20 for various parts, mainly from Flying Spares. Recent parts to note are a new front rubber bumper, as the old one was showing its age, and a reconditioned steering rack.
This Shadow has made up part of our vendors private collection and is now being sold due to another Rolls-Royce joining the garage. If you are on the hunt for a Shadow II which has been properly cared for and you quite fancy a colour combination which will start conversations, then look no further.
