The TR5 was built for a 13-month period between August 1967 and September 1968 in Coventry. Visually identical to the Michelotti styled TR4, the TR5 hid the main differences under the body. The most significant change was the 2.5 litre straight-six fuel-injected engine developing around 150bhp and which was carried forward to the TR6. At the time, fuel injection was uncommon in road cars. Triumph claimed in their sales brochure that it was the ‘first British production sports car with petrol fuel injection’. This engine could propel the TR5 from 0-50mph in just 6.5 seconds and on to a top speed of 125mph. Standard equipment included front disc brakes, independent rear suspension, rack and pinion steering and a four-speed gearbox.

This absolutely superb example of this extremely sought-after model is presented in Old English White with a blue interior which matches the hood and there were only 1161 built of which allegedly only half survive today. The present owner is the fourth since new and has spent circa £23,000 on the car whilst in his ownership. This work has included a complete bare metal panel re-spray, new interior and dashboard. The dark blue hood is in ‘as new condition’ and the gleaming Old English White paintwork looks superb with no imperfections. The engine runs smoothly and sounds evocative, as these six-cylinder 2,500 litre engines should! The car comes with a fantastic and comprehensive history file which includes its original buff logbook and many invoices showing work which has been carried out over the decades and it also comes with a MoT test certificate which expires in March 2024. The car also has a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust Certificate which confirms the Triumph’s original colour as being white and also confirms it as a U.K. car with matching numbers and there is documentation which verifies the current mileage as being correct. The current owner has had the car maintained by professional specialists whilst in his ownership. This TR5 is truly fabulous and is in near concours condition in our opinion.
