The MGC was the first 'high performance' version of the MGB. From early on in the design stages of the MGB there was an intention to create high performance variants, using a range of Vee engines that did not make it to production. The MGC was much more than a tuned MGB, in fact it was a completely re-engineered car, but retained many visual connections to the MGB. On the outside the MGC was often mistaken for an MGB as the only visual difference was the heavily bulged bonnet with a transverse chrome strip that accentuated the bulges, and the standard use of 15” wheels instead of the 14” used on the MGB. Inside there were very few differences between the B and C, other than the 140mph speedometer and tachometer with a yellow and red banding, set against lower RPM than the MGB.
This delightful MGC was manufactured on 4th July 1968 and despatched from the factory on 9th July to Henlys Ltd. London. The car was first registered on 8th August 1968 and the current vendor is a very knowledgeable classic car enthusiast who has owned the car since September 2020. He has improved the car dramatically under his stewardship, recently fitting a Downton cylinder head which is sporting triple Weber carburettors. The radiator is a high velocity aluminium unit, and an electric fan has been fitted. The car was restored in 2005 with the bodywork being stripped to bare metal, any corrosive areas were cut-out and re-fabricated and the colour changed from the original British Racing Green to Primrose Yellow. The seats are trimmed in black leather with white piping. Additional instrumentation has been fitted to the dashboard, along with a Brantz Tripmaster and two stopwatches. Supplied with a V5C registration document and a history folder, the condition is certainly commensurate with such a very well cared for example. Viewing in person is recommended to fully appreciate the quality of this MGC GT.
