The Mercedes-Benz W113 roadsters, designed by Paul Bracq, were produced from 1963 through to 1971 and were known as the 'Pagoda roof' SL. All models boast an inline six-cylinder engine with multi-port fuel injection. Rear wheel drive configuration was complemented by independent rear suspension, a feature that greatly improved road handling. The 230 SL made a remarkable debut at the prestigious Geneva Motor Show in March 1963 where the famous German engineer Fritz Nallinger introduced it as follows "It was our aim to create a very safe and fast sports car with high performance which, despite its sports characteristics, provides a very high degree of travelling comfort."
This Mercedes-Benz 230SL Pagoda was originally registered in 1964 in the US and was imported to the UK from Florida in 2008. Owned by our vendor since 2012 and presented in burgundy paintwork which matches the supplied colour from new and has lovely ‘as new carpeting’ complimented by its black trim. Restored circa four years ago and presenting in similar condition today, this example boasts the desirable manual gearbox and is offered with over £40,000 in receipts. It benefits from new brake and suspension components, new complete exhaust and new tyres (all done less than 500 miles ago). Since passing its MoT in March this year, the vendor has been driving and enjoying whilst having any final work completed. Within the history file, you will find the latest receipts reflecting in April of this year a sum of £900 has been spent on having the servo overhauled, an engine fuel and air ratio adjustment for £751.43 in July and finally in September this year, the latest receipt for £3405.16 which shows the engine timing chain and adjuster were replaced. The engine timing and vacuum advance have been set up and the alternator overhauled. This work was carried out by renowned classic Mercedes specialists Colin Ferns ltd, showing a good level of care for what has been a joy for our client to drive over the summer months. Supplied with both soft and hardtops, this is a very desirable manual Pagoda which is offered at an extremely realistic price. A perfect example ready for a European tour perhaps or 2023’s long summer days motoring
