The first Porsche 911 was introduced in 1963 as the replacement for the much- loved Porsche 356. It has a distinctive design; rear-engined and with independent rear suspension, an evolution of the swing axle on the Porsche 356. The engine was also air-cooled until the introduction of the type 996 in 1998. Since its introduction in 1963, it has undergone continual development although the basic concept has remained little changed. In 1973, the Carrera name was re-introduced from the 356 Carrera which had itself been named after Porsche's class victories in the Carrera Panamericana races in Mexico in the 1950's. The RS was built so that Porsche could enter racing formulae which demanded that a certain minimum number of production cars were made. The most notable advances in 1984 were the introduction of the 3.2 litre engine. With 231bhp on tap, the new 'boxer' motor endowed the Carrera with a level of performance approaching that of the original 911 Turbo of 1974; the bold statistics being a 0-60mph time of 5.3 seconds and a top speed of 152mph.
Manufactured in 1988, this fine Carrera is finished in black with a contrasting black interior and colour coded alloy wheels. Originally supplied by well-known franchised dealer AFN Chelsea the specification sheet for this handsome 911 shows that the car was built with a high-fidelity package, sunroof, electric height adjustment and driver sport seat. Now showing 103,000 miles, this 911 was last serviced at 97,970 miles at Chelsea Carrera ltd; following which the car remained in long term storage until recent comprehensive recommissioning. The file for this 911 contains a service book shows 12 stamps, various bills and MoTs, an original book pack, tool kit and unused spare wheel. Offered to auction with a V5C registration document and a fresh MoT test certificate, this 911 is ready to go.
