The Austin Healey 3000 Mk. III was launched in October 1963 and remained in production until the end of 1967 when production of Austin Healey’s ceased. Classified as the BJ8, the new model was the most powerful and luxurious of the big Healey’s with a walnut veneer dash, wind-up windows and a 150bhp engine. Improvements to the engine included a revised camshaft, valve springs and twin SU 2" HD8 carburettors together with a redesigned exhaust system and servo-assisted brakes. In May 1964, the phase II version was introduced that gave better ground clearance at the rear by a modified chassis.

This delightfully handsome Austin Healey was repatriated from North America, and subsequently registered in the UK on August 2013. Restored to fast road specification with works black wire wheels, a works black front grille and works black side vents and front wings, it looks superb and has clearly been completed to a very high standard indeed. The 3000 is in excellent order throughout, the paintwork retains a deep shine and the newly fitted interior is wonderful. The underside is also in very good condition as is the bodywork. Acquired by the current vendor from a small collection, the previous vendor unfortunately lost many of the invoices relating to the initial restoration, however on file are many invoices relating to maintenance work costing well over £20,000, including an extensive engine rebuild by Denis Welch Motorsport, the heritage certificate, previous MoT test records, and the UK registration document. Fitted with overdrive the Healey also comes with a spare set of wire wheels. Very few examples are offered in such good condition and this example with its triple carburettors and fast road specification style both looks and drives superb. One of the best we have seen this superb Healey is ready to be enjoyed immediately.
