With a production run that lasted from 1963 until 1991, the Trabant 601 was unsurprisingly the most well-known model of the 2.8million ‘Trabis’ finding homes. Produced by VEB Sachsenring in Saxony, the Trabant was the East German answer to its West German counterpart the VW Beetle. Affordable to buy and cheap to run, the Trabant displayed elements ahead of its time including front wheel drive, all round independent suspension and a low maintenance engine. There was often a 10-year waiting list to take delivery of one.

This pleasant example has been well maintained and looks well in lime green with a cloth interior and represents a rare opportunity to acquire a retro design classic. Full of character, this little car is a tremendous head turner and is described as fun to drive. Presented to auction with a V5C registration document and, in spite of exemption by age, an MoT test certificate valid until 23rd September 2022. Offered without reserve, this iconic car would be ideal for advertising or just for fun.
