When the Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow was released to the public in October 1965, the development departments were showing the result of work carried out over a period of some ten years and the largest production volume of any Rolls-Royce. The new models, designed by J.P Blatchley, were technically striking in three ways. A monocoque chassis was used; all wheels were sprung independently and four-wheel disc brakes now ensured stopping power of the sort that had come to be expected in a modern car. Under the bonnet, the V8 engine that had been introduced in the Silver Cloud series was employed.
This pleasant example was registered in June 1969 and is presented in Regal Red with a beige leather interior. The enthusiast vendor tells us that this original Silver Shadow was purchased from the well-known specialists, the Christian family in Southport and is a joy to drive, he has enjoyed the car during his four-year tenure. Offered to auction with a V5C registration document and without reserve, this MoT exempt Silver Shadow is a fine example of British workmanship and luxury motoring, still oozing class 52 years after its manufacture.
