There is little doubt that the Mercedes-Benz roadster represents the very pinnacle of elegant motoring. Whether on the Kings Road in London or the Côte d’Azur in Nice, this most classic and reliable motor car ticks all the boxes. In addition to this, the build quality is second-to-none and the range of engines available suits all tastes. This example, the 380 SL, represents one of the more powerful examples and is thought to be generally the most collectible of the range.

The previous owner imported this example from Florida over four years ago converting it from US specification to full EU spec. at the same time. The current owner, a collector of some note, has been looking for a solid lefthand drive example for some continental touring with his wife and this fitted the bill. It was stripped back and repainted in the original ‘Orient Red’, including the hard top. New carpets throughout were also fitted as were door cards and a fresh trim of the driver’s seat. Again, all in the original ‘Palomino’ colour scheme. The air-conditioning works well as does the cruise control, the car is also fully serviced with new Bilstein shock absorbers all round and the alloy ‘Mexican Hat’ wheels are freshly refurbished. It is reported to drive extremely well. After all, the vendor wouldn't drive all the way to the Amalfi Coast with his wife if it didn't…
