The TR-Tec Group of companies, trading as Backdraft Racing South Africa, was established in the city of Durban in 2002 and was initially producing two cars a month, with the aim of establishing itself as a niche market player producing high quality cars, mainly for the USA market. The development of the Mk. I Backdraft Roadster started in December 2000. The first examples of the Mk. I car were shown to the public in October of 2001. The cars are built in both left hand and right hand drive configurations to suit the requirements of the international community. In 2003, the production facility was consolidated into a 5,000sq/m building, south of Durban in South Africa and now producing approximately 200 cars a year. In the USA, Backdraft Racing Inc. was founded in January 2001 by two world champion car racers, Tony Marten and Reg Dodd and became the main partner and outlet for the South African company, the Backdraft Roadsters being built to the new owner’s specification in their state of the art facility. An all-new US head office and showroom, Backdraft Park, was opened in Boynton Beach in 2012. Backdraft are world leaders in high quality authentic replicas and custom built roadsters.

This stunning, left hand drive Backdraft Cobra rolling chassis and bodywork were completed in South Africa at the very beginning of 2007, batch number 87. Finished in competition orange with black strips and black meatballs (painted circles), it was dispatched to Backdraft Racing Inc. Florida, USA on 2nd February 2007.
On arrival in Florida, the car was checked through including the BMW 3 Series suspension and power assisted brakes and it was fitted with a 342 cubic inch Ford Racing Performance Crate Stroker engine, which has the Ford Racing aluminium cylinder heads and the Ford Racing high performance hydraulic roller camshaft. Also fitted was a Tremec T5, five speed manual gearbox driving 17” chrome wheels. The car was then registered in Florida as a 1965 Ford Replica before being dispatched to its first owner in Neuss, Germany. This Backdraft Cobra was imported by the husband of the seller in 2010 but appears not to have been registered until 2014. The car has been in storage for the last 18 months since he unfortunately passed away. The car has had a new windscreen fitted, it is supplied with a UK V5 registration document which states the make as a Ford and the year of manufacture as 1965 and the DVLA has classed it as a historic vehicle. Backdrafts are reported to be one of the best Cobra recreations one can buy as the build quality is second to none.

Interested parties should note that due to the late arrival of the new windscreen this car is now being sold without an MOT.
