The Citroën 2CV is unquestionably one of the most important European cars of all time. It helped put the French working class on wheels, especially important after the ravages of World War II and offered basic transportation, a boon to the French economy both from a transportation and a manufacturing standpoint. There are a number of ‘urban myths’ concerning head of Citroën, Pierre-Jules Boulanger’s 1930’s vision for the future but, essentially, his car had to be able to ‘transport four peasants with 100kg of farm produce to market at 37mph, in clogs, and across muddy unpaved roads if necessary. The roof had to be high enough, enabling driver and passengers to ride whilst wearing their Sunday hats to church, the car’s fuel consumption would average 90-95mpg, it should be able to drive across a ploughed field without breaking the eggs it was carrying and, above all, it had to stay within the two horsepower fiscal bracket to remain affordable’. Disparagingly dubbed ‘Tin Snail’ in the US and fondly known as La Deuche in France, the 2CV is one of the country’s most recognisable icons.

One of several 2CV’s owned by the vendor, this car has been a part of his collection the longest boasting a place in his garage for over twenty years. Incredibly the car has covered only 4,005 miles since new, supported by the MoT test certificates included in the history file. Also in the file is the original Citroën service book and manual. Only for sale due to lack of use, this wonderful 1988 car must be one of the lowest mileage 2CV’s in existence and can also boast only being on its third keeper. Whilst not requiring much in the way of maintenance, especially given the car has only covered 543 miles in the past 21 years, the vendor has always kept the car running and in good order with his full-time mechanic. In fact, the vendor reports the car to run and drive very well.

Supplied with its UK V5C logbook, service book, owner’s manual and MoT test certificates, this 2CV6 offers a glimpse into history presenting in such original condition with such incredibly low mileage; a must for any 2CV aficionado.
