  • Rare long wheelbase flagship S class with electric rear seats

The Mercedes-Benz W126 model was the successor to the earlier W116 line and the second generation of the Mercedes-Benz flagship to officially bear the S-Class name meaning Sonderklasse or 'special class'. The model range also introduced many Mercedes-Benz safety innovations, including the first airbag (supplemental restraint systems), seatbelt pre-tensioners and traction control. Six years of development resulted in the W126 model being introduced at the International Motor Show in Frankfurt in September 1979, with design work on the coupé beginning immediately after. Compared to its predecessor, the new model had a sleeker, lower profile look with more aerodynamic qualities than previous models. All were immensely safe and capable machines that were designed to barrel along the fast lane of the German autobahns all day long without a murmur of protest from car or driver. The flagship Mercedes luxury saloon powered by a smooth eight-cylinder 300bhp engine which gave it a top speed of 150mph and achieving 60 in 7. 5 seconds.

Supplied new by the diplomatic sales division of Mercedes-Benz in Piccadilly, London on 12th February 1990, this highly specified 560 long wheel base S- class is presented in metallic blue with full blue leather trim. The vendor has owned and enjoyed the car for over a decade and describes it as luxurious car with great suspension that irons out every bump on the road. This very well spec’d example has the desirable and comfortable electric rear seats. It has taken part in many at Mercedes enthusiast events over the last 5-6 years. Offered with the original stamped service booklet with 15 main dealer stamps from new and 25 stamps in all, the most recent was in 2019 with very few miles covered since. It is supplied with various MoT test certificates, invoices and receipts from previous maintenance and the original owner’s manual. With a strong increase in value, this car is a testament to a bygone era of real luxury Mercedes-Benz, equally at home chauffeuring diplomats as it would, charging across the continent!
