Introduced in August 1991 the first generation CL-Class Coupé was designed by Bruno Sacco. Renowned for its wonderful build quality and refinement, it boasted such niceties as double pane window glazing and self-closing doors / boot. Based upon a rigid monocoque bodyshell equipped with all round independent suspension, four-wheel disc brakes and power assisted steering. A challenger for the title of 'best car in the world', the Stuttgart manufacturer's flagship could be had in standard saloon, long wheelbase or fixed head coupe guises. Though, many felt that the latter variant was by far the best looking. Electronically limited to 155mph, the CL 500 coupé was powered by a 4973cc DOHC 32-valve V8 engine. Known internally as the M119, this imposing unit was credited with 322bhp and 354lbft of torque. Mated to standard fit automatic transmission, it reputedly enabled the sleek two-door to sprint from 0-100km/h in 6.7 seconds. Facelifted in 1997 with a new grille design and clear indicators etc, the CL coupé range was phased out for the 2000 model year. The C140's coupé's physical appearance changed little over the years, although the class underwent a name change several times.

Originally registered on 20th August 1997 this CL 500 has only covered 53,398 miles from new. The original service books are present and show five main dealer stamps together with four marque specialist stamps. Presenting in silver with black leather trim this delightful Mercedes-Benz drives exceedingly well. The 4973cc engine starts on the button and runs very smoothly with-to be expected-brisk performance. Comfort, luxury and style are words easily used when describing these W140 coupés. Supplied with a V5C registration document, an MoT test certificate valid until 17th February 2022, two keys, the original book pack and toolkit. The condition of this increasingly rare CL 500 is certainly commensurate with such a low mileage example; predicted to be one for the future, this 24 year old Mercedes-Benz is sure to attract the shrewd investor.
