The Triumph TR3 was built between 1955 and 1957 and was powered by a 1991cc engine which initially produced 95bhp increasing to 100bhp at 5000rpm. The four speed manual transmission could be supplemented by an overdrive unit on the top three ratios electrically operated and controlled by a switch on the dash. In 1956, the front brakes changed from drum to disc becoming the first British series production car to be so fitted. Because of these disc brakes, the TR3 and subsequent TR3A's became known for their superior braking ability making it an autocross favourite. In 1957, the TR3 was replaced by an updated version, the TR3A, which included new wide front grille, exterior door handles, lockable boot handle and came with a full tool kit as standard, although the TR3A's still retained the 1991cc engine.
Attractively presented in Primrose yellow over Royal Blue leather with Cornflower Blue carpets, this 1959 TR3A was originally supplied by Wests of Lincoln to Stimpsons Garage, Boston. It comes supplied with a lovely history file which includes notes and letters from previous owners as well as the car’s original logbook, old tax discs and even a period maintenance handbook. Upon the second owner’s passing, the car was then stored for some 37 years until its third owner had the car sympathetically restored and recommissioned with a lot of invoices relating to the work carried out included in the file. The vendor reports the car to run and drive very well with overdrive available on second, third and fourth gears. The desirable number plate ODO 48 is also included with the car.
Supplied with the Heritage Certificate, original logbook, history file, many MoT test certificates supporting the mileage, old tax discs, service instruction manual and maintenance handbook this attractive and fun to drive little TR is ready to go.
