Rolls-Royce's adoption of unitary construction for its new Silver Shadow and T-Series Bentley necessitated the reorganisation of in-house coachbuilder H. J. Mulliner, Park Ward to meet the challenge of producing new designs on the Shadow floorpan. The variety of body styles offered was limited to just two; a two-door saloon or similar drophead coupé - the former arriving in March 1966 and the latter in September the following year. Despite the price being some 50% higher than the standard saloons, demand was strong right from the start and led to the introduction of the outwardly similar Corniche in 1971. Any Corniche convertible is an exclusive machine with fewer than 5,400 examples being sold between 1971 and the Rolls-Royce version finishing in 1995. Much fewer Bentley Corniche cars were built with production finishing in 1984 becoming the Bentley Continental to provide more differentiation between the two marques.

This is one of the very last of the 30 Bentley Corniche convertibles built between 1982 and 1984 before the introduction of the Bentley Continental. This low mileage Corniche which has only covered 57,500 miles from new is finished in Rally Red and complemented by beige hide piped with red leather interior and a black mohair roof. This Bentley has been fully maintained by marque specialists The Chelsea Workshop based in London, they have the service history of this car which includes 15 services and changing the speedo in 1996 at 42,268 miles, since the ‘new’ speedo was fitted some 24 years ago the car has only covered a further 15,000 miles. Recently, The Chelsea Workshop have gone through the mechanics of this car and a new MoT test certificate was issued which expires in September 2021. Supplied with a V5 registration document and a file containing service history and copies of invoices for works carried out by Chelsea Workshop. This very rare Bentley Corniche is an extremely desirable luxury car in beautiful condition and we believe will be very well received by collectors and enthusiasts alike.
