By the late 1950s Fleetwood-ladled bodies were becoming rarer and rarer at Cadillac and the Series 75 was among the last, although rather subtly, Fleetwood script and crests did not appear anywhere on the exterior of the car. The 1959 Cadillacs, with their amazing exaggerated tailfins and ‘bullet’ rear lights created a sensation on their introduction and have remained among the most celebrated and collectable of all post-war models. The frontal aspect of the design was equally extraordinary with a massive chrome grille. The cars were available as saloons, coupés and convertibles and were designed to offer the most lavishly equipped motoring in the world and accordingly this example is fully fitted with fingertip sensitive power steering, ‘Wonder Bar’ radio, air conditioning and cruise control. The car was intended to represent the state of the art in motoring terms at the dawn of the space age; more than fifty years later the car still stands out as a startling creation.
Standard equipment included power brakes, power steering, automatic transmission, dual back-up lamps, windshield wipers, two-speed wipers, wheel discs, outside rear-view mirror, vanity mirror, oil filter, power windows and a two-way power seats. Technical highlights were finned rear drums and an X-frame construction.
This outstanding Cadillac Fleetwood presents in excellent order throughout, the black paintwork is in very good order having recently been repainted and is a colour that really suits this classic American car. The white retrimmed interior complements the exterior colour and the ample chromework that can be found both on the outside and interior is a great reminder of what magnificent cars Cadillac built in this era. We are informed the 6392cc V8 engine sounds superb when started. Purchased by our vendor as part of a significant private collection in 2016 this example has benefitted from continual maintenance and when not in use is stored inside in a professional ventilated Carcoon. The rear fins on this Fleetwood are a thing of beauty; this really is an eye-catching Cadillac. Supplied with a V5C registration document, why not impress your neighbours with this amazingly iconic American idol.
