The AEC Routemaster was designed by London Transport and built by the Associated Equipment Company. The prototype was completed in 1954 and the model was in production until the last one was delivered in 1968. A pioneering design, the Routemaster outlasted several of its intended replacement models going on to become one of London’s most famous symbols. In 2006 the Routemaster was voted one of Britain’s top 10 design icons in a list that included Concorde, The Spitfire and the London tube map.
204 UXJ was in service with London Transport for several years. This bus must have seen some sights during its working life, mainly covering Route 36 which runs from Queens Park to New Cross calling at Marble Arch and the world famous hotel, The Dorchester. We are told by the owner that a new engine was fitted to this bus a few months prior to its decommissioning from London Transport. Supplied to auction with a V5C registration document, this is a rare opportunity to buy such an iconic vehicle which is presented in its original guise including advertising for Pan Am and Wrigley’s chewing gum. Parts for these fantastic vehicles are easily available through a well-established and enthusiastic Owner’s Club.
The health and safety of both our customers and team remains the utmost priority, we are therefore operating to Government guidelines throughout viewing and auction day.
