There are many ways to introduce an Alfa Romeo Spider; oblique references to the academy award-winning film ‘The Graduate’ with Dustin Hoffman and Anne Bancroft, its superb engine, its roots tracing back to 1910 and in continuous production, in one form or another since then or the significant element it has contributed to the world’s motor racing history from the Mille Miglia to modern Touring Cars. During 1970, the Giulia 105 series Spider was updated with many improvements from its predecessor including such upgrades as a new drag reducing Kamm tail, bigger brakes and a limited slip differential. All Spider models were offered with, as standard, five-speed gearboxes, disc brakes all around and twin cam engines with four engine options; the 1.3, 1.6, 1.8 and as offered here, the top of the range 2.0 litre model.

First registered in August 1977, this Series Two Spider has been well maintained during its 25 year ownership and boasts an extensive history file including invoices from respected specialists such as Alfaholics, Classic Alfa and Bianco Auto Developments. The engine was rebuilt by Bianco Auto Developments and included a gas flowed cylinder head and uprated camshafts. The car also benefits from a mildly lightened flywheel, electronic ignition, Alfaholics flame thrower coil and intake ram pipes and overhauled twin 45mm Dell’Orto carburettors. The brake master cylinder was recently replaced, as well as the steering track rod ends. The Michelin clad 15 inch GTA style alloy wheels fitted complement the classic Alfa’s lines. The coachwork, finished in the classic Alfa Rosso, is also in good order, as is the interior, hood and tonneau cover. We are informed that this Alfa Romeo drives extremely well with excellent performance from its uprated engine and smooth gearbox; a thrill to drive, with handling as you would expect from an Italian sports car.

Supplied in the history file is an original handbook, many invoices, old tax discs and MoT certificates dating back to 1986. This Alfa Romeo Spider will surely put a smile on any driver’s face, given its performance, handling and good looks.
