The Mercedes-Benz 300 debuted at the Frankfurt Auto Show in 1951 and would succeed in re-establishing the Stuttgart firm in the front rank of prestige car manufacturers, marking as it did a return to the marque's tradition of building high-performance luxury automobiles of the finest quality. Custom built by Mercedes-Benz's most experienced craftsmen, the 300 was luxuriously appointed and trimmed with materials of the highest quality. Fast and elegant, it was one of very few contemporary vehicles capable of carrying six passengers in comfort at sustained high speeds. It was the car of choice among West German government officials, and throughout Europe and the USA was widely favoured by businessmen, financiers and politicians. Indeed, 'Adenauer' became the 300 saloon/limousine's unofficial model name, after German Chancellor Konrad Adenauer, its most famous customer.
Offered from a private collection, this original righthand drive example was delivered new in 1952 to a Portuguese family before it was sold to the UK in 1986. Purchased by the current vendor in 1988 the Mercedes was used regularly for some years before being put in long term storage in 1992. Recently recommissioned which included the re-chroming of the front and rear bumpers, this ‘Adenauer’ is presented in very good order. The paintwork is good showing little sign of age and the interior is in lovely condition. The comprehensive history file that accompanies this car includes photocopies of the original registration document, various sundry invoices, old MoT test certificates and the current UK V5 registration document. Showing a mere 42,327km on the odometer this is a fantastic opportunity to acquire a 300 ‘Adenauer’ with a wonderful history.
The health and safety of both our customers and team remains the utmost priority, we are therefore operating to Government guidelines throughout viewing and auction day.
