The Mercedes-Benz E Class range was actually launched in 1953 and sits midrange in the German manufacturers line-up. Offered in various engine and body configurations, the E-Class has been marketed worldwide across five generations. W211 is the factory code name for the version of the E-Class model which was launched in 2002.
