The Ford P100 is a car-based pick-up that was built from 1971 to 1993, initially in South Africa, and later in Portugal. It was based on medium-sized passenger cars, originally the Cortina and from 1988 the Sierra. The P100 name had previously been used on a small North American panel van in the 1960s. In late 1987, for the 1988 model year, the P100 was rebodied with a new Sierra based cab. Engine choices were originally the Sierra's 2.0 litre ‘Pinto’ petrol engine, with a 1.8 litre turbo diesel following soon thereafter. It proved a strong seller, particularly on the UK market. Production of the P100 ceased when the Sierra was replaced by the Mondeo range. In recent years the Sierra-based P100 has gained a following in drifting and modifying circles, and many are becoming modified to include Cosworth engines, which are based on the truck version of the Pinto block. The very fact that they are so easily modified under the bonnet and inside the cab has made the P100 extremely popular in cruise circles.
Originally supplied by Newport Ford and registered on 10th September 1990, this Sierra based P100 can only be described as unique. The nature of these vehicles meant that they generally had a hard life being both robust and reliable. However, this example defies logic in its condition. It is totally original and has only covered 1,084 miles from new. Open the driver’s door and it still smells like a new vehicle, the original seat covers are still in place. To be expected of such a low mileage 30 year old vehicle, the condition can only be described as museum quality. Open the bonnet and the 1.8 diesel engine has still got the protection wax in place. The car is fitted with front nudge bars and rear protection bars together with spotlights and a rear protection cover. Supplied with a V5C registration document together with the original service books and a MoT test certificate valid until 26th September 2020, this magnificent example is surely impossible to repeat.
