The 348's styling differed from previous models with straked side air intakes and rectangular tail lights resembling the Testarossa, stylistic themes reminiscent of the F40 and was the world’s fastest production car at the time. A mid-engined, rear wheel drive car, the V8 powered two-seater replaced the 328 in 1989 continuing until 1995. Badged 348 TB for the coupé (Berlinetta) and 348 TS (Spider) for the targa versions, it featured a naturally aspirated, 3.4 litre version of the quad-cam, four valve-per-cylinder engine which was originally found in the 288GTO. The 348 was equipped with a dry-sump oil system to prevent oil starvation at high speeds and during hard cornering. It was also fitted with adjustable ride height suspension and a removable rear subframe to speed up the removal of the engine for maintenance - something that made the 348 a far more user friendly example keeping maintenance costs lower than some other prancing horses.
This 348 TB presented in Rosso Corsa with Nero leather trim is privately owned and treasured by our vendor who came across the car while visiting his wife's family in Japan. With the advantage of having a Japanese partner, our vendor was able to source this TB which was supplied new by Cornes, the official Ferrari distributor in Japan; his advantage was to find an example with full service history which has certified English translation together with the Japanese export certificate warranting the mileage in late 2016. Since arriving back in the UK, the car has had a full cambelt service with QV London at a cost of £2,600 and then a further service in March of this year with GTO Engineering. With a great history file and two keys, this unmolested and unmodified 348 is a great example of the 'practical' Ferrari and, with prices rising for the 348's, this could be a great investment in the long term and great fun in the short term.
