Mercedes-Benz launched its new S-Class in 1979 with the object of retaining the title of the 'World’s Best Luxury Car' for the next decade. The W126 range succeeded admirably, achieving critical acclaim the world over. The engineers at Stuttgart paid greater attention to aerodynamics for better economy and pioneered a number of safety systems like ABS and SRS airbags, helping make the new S-Class the first production car able to meet stringent new regulations for surviving a frontal offset collision. The W126 range underwent revision in 1985, with no less than four new engines including the 4.2 litre V8, the 420 replaced the 380 SE/SEL. Superbly engineered, beautifully finished and equipped, the W126 S-Class Mercedes-Benz remains an excellent proposition as a daily driver and will, with proper care and servicing, provide the owner with genuine luxury motoring at an affordable price.

This stunning, original, rust-free example of the W126 S-Class 420 SEL is presented in near-unmarked, metallic black with matching full black leather trim, it must be one of the most original and low mileage examples in existence. Having only covered approximately 9,000 miles from new, this example has an extensive history file from its original existence in Japan before being purchased by our vendor, a Mercedes-Benz enthusiast, in 2017. Specified from new with air conditioning and electric adjustable front and rear seats and rear foot rests, this classic V8 would have been the very epitome of a luxury vehicle with Mercedes-Benz leading the way in technological advances - the car to be driven in! Since our vendor took ownership of this car it has been meticulously detailed both above and below the sill-line with an underside that is testament to the mileage and quality of ownership, the car is accompanied by the original spare wheel and tyre which, unsurprisingly, have never been used. It has been checked over and fully serviced by renowned Mercedes-Benz specialists, Colin Fernes Ltd. of Richmond at a cost of £2,400, a copy of the invoice is included with the vehicle.

The original service book and manual, stereo remote control for the passenger, book pack and copy of a recent four-page feature in Mercedes Driver magazine accompany the car, also included as is an MoT test certificate which is valid until October 2020 and the history pack containing details of its early life. This car truly has to be seen to be appreciated and is genuine museum-quality, perfect for the collector or simply long Autobahn journeys.
