A unique motoring icon for thirty years the AC Cobra has held an unparalleled position as the worlds ultimate muscle car. Still today, it continues to fire the blood of true car enthusiasts like no other vehicle and, in 2000, a new chapter in the Cobra history was written with the Mk. IV Cobra Carbon Road Series (CRS). The CRS was the last in the legendary line of Cobras to come from their true home, AC. A combination of F1 technology and hand-built craftsmanship, the CRS was seen as the best of both worlds at the turn of the millennium. Still a hand-crafted British supercar, the CRS is based upon the chassis and power train of its aluminium bodied brother, the Superblower, but with a very modern twist of boasting an all carbon-fibre body.
With a 5.0 litre power unit, fully independent suspension and ventilated disc brakes all-round, the CRS enjoyed genuine AC Cobra performance as well as aesthetics and build quality. The power of the thumping V8 is transmitted to the road via a Hydratrack limited slip differential and 16" alloy wheels. No other car offered the combination of such classic styling and thrilling performance wrapped in a package of an iconic motoring legend from AC cars.
This incredible righthand drive five-speed manual CRS Cobra was built by AC Car Group Ltd. at Brooklands factory in Weybridge, Surrey and first registered on the 23rd March 2000. Finished in iconic Melina blue and believed to be one of the press cars used for a photo shoot at Brooklands for the accompanying sales brochure, this example has covered a mere 3,174 miles and presented as new, 'it's just been run in’ said our vendor ‘ready for any new owner with a heavy right foot to enjoy the glorious V8 sound and unparalleled feeling of an AC Cobra squirming its way off the lights'. Supplied with an original pre-production owner’s handbook which has the original 500 mile service performed by AC Cars and recently a service by marque specialists, Redline Engineering, and with an MoT test certificate valid until January 2020. Offered with the cherished plate M25 CRS, this car has spent much of its life in heated garages, as so many Cobras do, and enjoyed sparingly only on dry weekend days, with just one former keeper, this can be considered one of the rarest and most desirable Cobra's produced by AC that’s on the market. With the unique rigid chassis, carbon fibre body and precise steering to effectively communicate road conditions with full independent suspension and limited slip differential, this is possibly the best driver's example money can buy. Built in short numbers, it is believed just 37 were produced so a rare opportunity to own a collectable example of the marque.
