It is easy to see why the Mercedes SL model, with its manufacturer codename of R129, was to prove a best seller during a build run that lasted from 1989 to 2002. Launched as a two-door, two-seater roadster with an automated textile roof and a shell like, colour matched, powered tonneau cover.
