Produced in Surrey between 1947 and 1956 and powered by the company’s tried and tested 1,991cc engine, 1,284 AC two litre, four-door saloons were built. The car featured an aluminium panelled body on a wooden frame which was fitted to a conventional steel chassis. The factory claimed a power output of 74bhp. In 1948 a two-door saloon costing £1,277 was tested by the Motor Magazine achieving a top speed of 80mph and could accelerate from 0-60mph in 19.9 seconds.
This two-litre saloon was purchased as a project by the vendor in 2013. Unfortunately, a lack of time has prohibited the works being undertaken. Offered in green with a beige leather interior, this AC saloon has benefitted from dry storage by the current owner. Presented to auction with a V5C registration document and the original buff registration book, we are informed that this split screen AC runs. With so few still in existence and offered without reserve, MPL 440 should prove to be a rewarding purchase for any next owner.
