These Bentley Turbo Rs are a high-performance cars which were produced from 1985 to 1999 and were the envy of many. The 'R' stood for 'roadholding', to set it apart from its predecessor. It initially inherited the turbocharged engine from the Mulsanne Turbo and also sported a retuned suspension and wider tyres on alloy wheels which was a first for a Bentley. From the 1987 model year, the Turbo R’s V8 engine was upgraded with fuel injection for added torque. Motor Trend called the Turbo R, 'the first Bentley in decades deserving of the famous name', synonymous with the golden era of racing with the likes of the Bentley Boys and Brooklands circuit.
This 1997 Bentley is the desirable long wheelbase model which is presented in Black Sapphire with Parchment leather interior. The car benefits from lovely wooden picnic tables set into the rear of the front seats and also, at a vast cost of £8000, the vendor fitted cocktail cabinets with cut glass decanters and tumblers, which are located in the rear, providing even more on-board luxury. He also had a marine fridge fitted which is situated in the boot, ensuring the champagne is always at the desired temperature! These were all fitted in 1999. This car has clearly been cherished from new, with many thousands being spent to keep it in the best condition possible, with the latest invoices showing circa £17,000 having been spent in 2017 at the renown Bentley and Rolls-Royce specialists, Frank Dale and Stepsons. Numerous invoices, old MoT test certificates and correspondence, dating from 1998 can been seen in the history file. The current owner is a Bentley Drivers Club member and has attended many rallies, including Blenheim Palace, Silverstone and Le Mans. This is a fantastic car at a fraction of the cost from when it was new.
