The Rolls-Royce marque has long been the benchmark of automobile for which many aspired to. The Silver Wraith II is an extended wheelbase version of the popular Silver Shadow II, and it was named in honour of the first post-war Rolls-Royce. The Silver Wraith was further distinguished from its shorter wheelbase stablemate by the fitting of the Cornich/Camargue-pattern wheel trims. The Shadow and its derivatives were the first to utilize a monocoque body and the car ran with a 6.75-litre V8 engine that is both powerful and silky smooth. This is mated to the always reliable GM supplied automatic transmission. Changes to the Silver Shadow that carried over to this more upscale model included the addition of rack-and-pinion steering, plus significant improvements to the front suspension that also helped improve the handling and overall performance. These changes ushered in more modern standards that were already available on selected competitors in this fashionable field of vehicles. The larger Silver Wraith was considered the top of the range for Rolls-Royce in this period and also stands apart due to its Everflex covered roof and small rear window. Increasingly sought after by interested collectors, only 2,135 Silver Wraiths were manufactured by the time production ended in October of 1980.
This example is one of the last Silver Wraith’s produced by the Crewe based Manufacturer. With only three owners from new, this Rolls-Royce presents in exceptional condition throughout. The brake system was overhauled in September 2018 and the car comes with all the original service books. Finished in Walnut with tan leather interior, the burr walnut wood is unmarked, this is a Silver Wraith of the highest quality. The V8 engine burst into life when requested and the car drives beautifully. The car is supplied with a V5C registration document and a current MoT test certificate together with a good history folder. Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow’s have become increasingly desirable of late, this magnificent rarer Silver Wraith with only three previous keepers is expected to continue the trend.
