The 2.4 saloon of 1955, retrospectively known as the Mk. I, had been a major step for Jaguar, marking the change from a coachbuilt chassis to one of unitary construction. It was in October 1959 that the Mk. II version appeared, resulting with a good car becoming even better. Similar in appearance but with a much larger glass area, it boasted a wider rear track to improve road holding together with minor front suspension changes to reduce body roll and all round disc rather than drum brakes. Engine options included the 120bhp, 2.4 litre; the 210bhp, 3.4 litre and, for the first time, the 220bhp, 3,781cc unit of the Mk. IX.
We are delighted to offer this splendid example of the top of the range Jaguar Mk. II that, according to the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate, was originally manufactured on 5th February 1965, distributed by Henlys Ltd. of London and registered and sold by Pollards Garage, Chelmsford on 8th March 1965. It is fitted with the most desirable options of a 3.8 litre engine, four-speed manual with overdrive gearbox, power steering and reclining front seats. In addition to the standard options, Coopercraft brakes have been fitted on all four corners and the Coombes style wheel arch spats have been fitted to the rear. This example was subject to a full repaint within the last three years and has had more than £20,000 spent on it within the past five years on regular servicing, replacement parts and upgrades with all the bills an invoices to detail work carried out. There is a comprehensive history file with the car including photos of the car during an earlier restoration, as well as many previous MoT test certificates and tax discs. The vehicle itself is in superb condition throughout and sits on a set of chrome wire wheels whilst the contrasting red leather interior shows very few signs of wear and exudes a charming patina. The exterior gunmetal coachwork is in excellent order and a look underneath confirms this area is excellent also. This Jaguar still retains its original toolkit and importantly, we are informed, drives very well. Although not required, this Jaguar has an MoT test certificate valid until June 2020 and is complete with a UK V5 registration document, owner’s manual, workshop manual and the afore mentioned large history file. Rarely does a Jaguar, 3.8 litre, Mk. II come to sale with these specifications and offered with this fabulous colour combination and condition.
