The Mercedes-Benz E Class range was launched in 1953 and sits midrange in the German manufacturers line-up. Offered in various engine and body configurations the E Class has been marketed worldwide across five generations. W211 is the factory code name for the version of the E Class launched in 2002. Historically the E Class is the best selling model from Mercedes-Benz with more than 13 million sold by 2015. Before 1993, the E in the manufacturers line-up was a suffix which stood for Einspritzmotor, the German word for fuel injection. By 1993 fuel injection was commonplace in Mercedes engines.
