Aston Martin’s DB4,in production from October 1958 to June 1963, was truly a race bred and had an international pedigree, with engine design by the Polish Tadek Marek, coachwork design by Touring of Milan and all-British chassis design by Harold Beach. The 3670cc engine of the new car had first appeared in 1956, a six-cylinder, twin overhead camshaft, all alloy engine as raced in the Works DBR 2. The new DB4 debuted at the 1958 London Motor Show, to widespread acclaim and, under test, had a top speed of around 140mph. It offered a mighty impressive 0-60mph time of just 9.3 seconds and wound up to 100mph in 20.1 seconds, stopping from that speed in a gravity-defying 10 seconds. In 1961 the DB4 was the most expensive yet Aston Martin model, selling, with purchase tax, at £4,172, the price of a very good detached house. The Superleggera system allowed a chassis space-frame of light steel tube with the alloy body fitted directly onto it. It was expensive because no alternative was available and Touring`s patent was enforced aggressively. The result was a very light, high-performance luxury coupé. Beautiful, very fast but not cheap.
This absolutely stunning, matching numbers example, was offered for sale originally by Brooklands of Bond Street, London in April 1961. It is finished in stunning dark Gun Metal and still retains its original red leather interior which is in lovely condition. The engine was completely stripped and rebuilt by Marksdanes Restorations, Somerset in 1994 where they also carried out a considerable amount of other work, copies of all the invoices for these works can be found within the history file. The car is currently French registered and the present owner had the car inspected by Haute De France Expertise in 2017, when they commented that 'this Aston Martin was in very good order', a full report of the inspection can also be found in the history file, albeit in French. These Series III models are highly sought after, particularly when presented in this condition, retaining some of its original patina, which is rare. This beautiful Aston Martin DB4 comes with a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust Certificate, tools and manuals.
