The E46 generation of BMW’s M3 was already an outstanding car, yet BMW’s engineers sought to produce a lightweight, track-ready version for the model’s swansong and in doing so, developed one of the most exciting M-cars on the 3 Series platform since the original E30 M3. The roof was replaced with a carbon fibre reinforced plastic panel, weighing 13 lbs. less than its steel counterpart. This material was used throughout the car and no stone was left unturned in making the car as light as possible, including fitting thinner rear-window glass. BMW claims that the M3 CSL tips the scales some 300 lbs. lighter than the standard M3. The car is powered by a modified version of the S54 inline six-cylinder engine, rated at 360 bhp and mated to BMW’s SMG II sequential manual transmission. A total of 1,383 M3 CSLs were manufactured of which 542 were righthand drive examples, all of which were built to European specification between June and December of 2003. The CSL was only available in two colours; Silver Grey Metallic and Black Sapphire Metallic.
Originally registered in the UK on 6th December 2003, this outstanding BMW is finished in Black Sapphire Metallic with black interior. With only three former keepers and having covered 30,023 miles from new, this example is in exceptional condition. As well as having GTechniq paint protection, the front roof and sides have Xpel paint protection film. The originality of such cars is vitally important and the vendor has taken all the necessary precautions to ensure this BMW stays in top condition. These M3 CSL’s are a great specification with 19” BBS alloy wheels, dual climate control, electric windows, chrome tipped quad exhaust system all standard fitment. Supplied with a V5C registration document and a current MoT test certificate valid until 5th March 2020 together with the original factory build card and handbooks, it is worth noting that the airbags were replaced on 20th June 2019 as a factory recall. A great car to drive and with some examples changing hands at over £80,000, we expect this BMW M3 CSL to appeal to investors and collectors alike.
