Probably the only car that will ever be produced as a collaboration between Mercedes-Benz and McLaren and with a production run of just 500 units, the McLaren SLR Roadster is destined to be a true collector’s car. Produced at McLaren’s Woking factory, the specification was incredible from the immensely powerful 5.5 litre supercharged V8 developing 626bhp, accelerating from 0-60 in 3.8 seconds and reaching an eye watering 207mph top speed, making it the most expensive and fastest convertible Mercedes-Benz has ever produced. Introduced in November 2003, it was Mercedes-Benz's foray into the world of the supercar, alongside such greats as the Porsche Carrera GT and the Ferrari Enzo. While Ferrari and Porsche pursued creating the best all-out supercars that the world had ever seen, Mercedes-Benz and McLaren attempted to create a car that combined the best aspects of supercars with that of grand tourers. Engineers took care to place the V8 as far back as possible in the chassis in order to improve the car's handling, giving the SLR near-perfect weight distribution. The car leads to a quarter mile in just over 11 seconds, its AMG Speedshift R transmission provides three manual modes to suit the owner's style of driving. Other remarkable technical features include the Sensotronic 'brake by wire' system, carbon-ceramic disc brakes and an automatic airbrake which can bring the SLR to a screeching halt from 120mph to a dead stop in less than 240 feet.
This spectacular example is finished in the stunning colour combination of Crystal Galaxit black with leather Silver Arrow black interior and an Anthracite/black hood. First registered on 12th June 2008 in Lisbon, Portugal, this two owner European car has covered just 7,700 miles and has eight stamps in the service book, including the important major service carried out in October of 2017 and a more recent service this May. This example is, without doubt, one of the best examples of the Mercedes/McLaren collaboration to be found in the marketplace and still boasts the factory stickers on the windscreen.
The cockpit area of an SLR is a thing of beauty and to drive one is a memorable experience; this example is no different, the engine fired up immediately when requested as one would expect from such a car. Offered with a host of extras including the limited edition cover, this really must be seen to be appreciated. If you have never driven an SLR, the sound that comes from the V8 through the slash-cut side exhausts is like nothing you have ever heard or will be likely to hear again and the driving experience is described as intoxicating. This is a truly unique, must-have supercar for any true collector to own and indeed, one that will only rise in value.
