Lot 109 - 1969 BMW R60
|Sold - £10,080
The Berlin-built R60 was in production from 1956 right up to 1969 with a hefty 600cc motor pushing pistons in a four stroke, boxer-style formation. This, interestingly, mirrored the German motorcar industry at the time. The rugged tubular steel frame made this classic design a real all-rounder and, as a result, has generated a keen following world-wide. During these production dates, no other models were produced indicating that the R60 and R69 were entirely sufficient for all tastes. Additionally, they also benefitted from telescopic front forks, 12-volt alternator, electrics, standard tachometer and turn signals.
This very low mileage example undertook a complete nut and bolt restoration back in the early 2000’s and since then, has won a number of concourse events. Following the overhaul, we are informed that that it has completed fewer than 1,000 miles although the speedometer apparently requires repair. The condition is superb and the extremely well presented motorcycle fires up with little effort on the kickstart.
