The 4973cc, R129 Mercedes-Benz SL500 carried on the tradition of the fast and reliable grand touring convertible from Mercedes-Benz. Born out of the earlier 500SL models, the new SL 500 featured many new and innovative ideas for the time such as controlled electronic damping, automatically expanding roll-over bar and a more modern multi-link rear axle. Fully operating electric hood, windows, door mirrors and seats made this model easy and comfortable to operate. With powerful engines, stopping power was aided by anti-locking braking for added reassurance.
This desirable SL 500 was first registered on 23rd January 1991 and is offered in two-tone metallic blue with matching blue hood and original AMG alloys wheels, we are informed the hood is operating as it should and is accompanied by the matching hard top. The history file demonstrates a very good maintenance record with a fully stamped service booklet, the most recent of which can be traced to July 2018. On inspecting the invoices we can deduce that the car had new front brake pads when serviced in May 2017, less than 1000 miles ago. An MoT test certificate until September 2019 will accompany this desirable five litre V8 example along with the original book pack. The wood veneers are very good as is the interior as a whole, having averaged under 6,000 miles per annum from new we think this is a stunning and attractive example of a R129 SL 500, ready to enjoy.
